Exposing Media Bias through our "Truth Algorithm"

This website is a bold attempt to reform what we now commonly refer to as "The Press" or "The Media". It is my opinion that much of what is reported in the media today is inaccurate at best and maliciously misleading at the worst.

In the coming weeks I will be selecting news articles for consumer review. The focus of this review process will be to point out dishonest reporting while praising accuracy.

I was inspired by comments I heard over the years from journalist and people seeking a career in journalism. When asked why they decided on a career in their chosen field, all too often, the typical response included phrases like "to make a difference", "expose injustice", "change the world" or some other noble sounding cause.

Then it suddenly hit me! Most journalist have a cause that they support and they allow their agenda to color the tone of their reporting. Often this leads to omissions that completely mislead their audience into believing things that simply are not true.

While I believe anyone who tells you they have "no agenda" is being dishonest, having an agenda need not be a bad thing. keep reading, I will get to that assertion in a moment.

Realizing everyone has an agenda, ask yourself "what agenda do I want coloring my news". We build our perception of the world around us, by selecting the sources of information we consume. By selecting the journalist that you read or listen to, you may live in a world based on a distorted reality. If you are conservative you tend to consume conservative journalism. If you are liberal you consume liberal media. I believe that is why our society is becoming more fractured and polarized.

Now imagine a journalist that has built his own distorted reality, selectively consuming all the information which he bases his perception of the world, from sources that have a distinct slant. Now imagine that same journalist, dedicated to an agenda based on his personal cause, may actually be driven to manufacture evidence to further a cause he believes is more important than the truth. Something like unseating an American president with fraudulent 45 year old documents, that were actually created using a word processor program that was only 3 years old. I do believe it could happen and seem to recall a similar story.

So, you may be wondering by now, "what agenda, coloring my news, would be a good thing?". For some of you, I am sure, the answer may already be obvious. How about a journalist dedicated to the truth? Someone who puts the truth as the most important agenda of reporting news. I believe this to be a rarity these days.

I believe omitting pertinent facts can be just as misleading as a bold face lie, yet most journalist are given a pass on this method of distortion. Even worse, I see what I believe to be completely false assertions made using incorrect facts. What ever happened to good old fashioned fact checking? Seems this just gets in the way of telling the story with whatever slant suits the journalist's cause.

The goal of this site is to, in a small way, counter the inaccuracies that seems so prevalent in today's media. We hope to ferret out the truth by checking facts, finding errors, omission of pertinent facts and separating opinion from facts. In other words, helping you find the truth in the news.

We plan to employ a "Truth Algorithm" if you will. This sophistcated algorithm will tend to cancel out the individual agendas. Distilling the news down to a consensus of what is fact and what is opinion.

Visitors to the web site will be invited to participate. Participants will build a reputation, over time, for truthfulness. Those that tend to distort the truth will have little influence. The more truthful and reliable their reputation becomes over time the more weight their influence will have on evaluating both the news items as well as the comments.

Visitors to the web site will be able to view news items as they would appear after removing distortions and misrepresentations of facts. Opinions will be easily separated from facts and a less biased report will be readily available. Pertinent facts will be cataloged for a clearer picture, avoiding often misleading omissions.

Ultimately, each individual has his own agenda, and will look for the slant that fits his own cause. Distortions piled on top of distortions could lead to such extremely distorted perceptions of reality, that otherwise sane people, could be perceived as lunatics. It seems, not a day goes by, that I see or hear of such examples. It just might help a little, if we all start with something closer to the truth, before adding distortions to support our own agenda.

We hope to become the destination for folks that seek a Truthful Answer to what is happening in the world we all live.

Over the coming weeks more details will be revealed leading towards the offical launch of this new and innovative concept.

Ordinary Americans Outraged by Extreme Media Bias

Some people are saying 2008 will be known as the year "News Media Died". This video shows ordinary American citizens reacting to a major News Network's presence at a political rally. After many months of nothing but "puff" pieces for a single candidate and vicious hit pieces on all opposing canidates, they seemed to think this network has lost all objectivity.

The candidate in question was canvasing a neighborhood recently and was asked a question buy an ordinary citizen called "Joe the Plumber". He simply wanted to know if his taxes were going to go up. The candidates gave a shocking answer that was caught on tape. Rather than ask the candidate about his radical answer, this network chose instead to attack "Joe the Plumber" for asking the candidate a question that prompted an answer exposing his radical agenda.
